Um homem e o seu filho saltam de pára-quedas todos os dias, da sua casa fria e vertiginosa presa no alto de um precipício, para se deslocarem à aldeia que se situa na planície abaixo, onde vendem o gelo que produzem durante a noite.
Every day, a father and his son jump with a parachute from their vertiginous cold house, attached to a cliff, to go to the village on the ground, far away where they sell the ice they produce daily.

Numa tarde quente de Agosto, a família se junta à mesa. As memórias de cada um vão-se cruzando para recordar a história do tio Botão. Da ditadura à emigração para França, onde trabalhou como homem do lixo, e quando voltava a Belmonte na carrinha cheia de “lixo”que se transformava num verdadeiro tesouro.
On a hot August afternoon, the family gathered at the table remembers uncle Botão: the Colonial War, emigration to France, where he lived and worked thirty years as a garbage man. Memories of each are crossed to tell the story of a man who lived a hard life through humor and fantasy, like when he returned to Belmonte, in a van full of trash, turned into a real treasure.

Polvo

Um estrangeiro chega a uma nova cidade. Não fala a língua dos locais nem se parece com eles: em vez de dois, tem vários braços, como um polvo. Ele parece aproximar-se dos outros e chega a oferecer-lhes os seus braços. Sempre que quiser, o estrangeiro pode arrancar um braço que este volta a crescer. Com o tempo, o homem-polvo passa a fazer parte da cidade, até ao dia em que aprende a nova língua.
A foreigner comes to a new city. He doesn’t speak the language of the locals or look like them: instead of two, he has several arms, like an octopus. He seems to approach others and even offers them his arms. Whenever he wants, the foreigner can rip off one of his arms, and it grows back. Over time, the octopus man becomes part of the city, until the day he learns the new language.

Eles desejam-se mutuamente, mas ambos ignoram o facto de o seu desejo ser correspondido. Então, ignoram-se reciprocamente na esperança de se tornar objeto de desejo do outro, em profunda ignorância da simetria tática. Cada vez mais distantes, deixam apagar o desejo, sedados pela frustração do fracasso da sua sedução. Um dia, ao caminharem em direções contrárias, cruzam-se, e ao reconhecerem a presença um do outro, trocam apenas um frio acenar de cabeça.
They desire each other, but both are oblivious to their desire’s match. So, they ignore each other in the hope of becoming each other’s object of desire, profoundly ignorant of the tactical symmetry. Evermore distant, they let their desire burn away, sedated by the seduction failure frustration. One day, walking in opposite directions, their paths cross and, as they recognize each other’s presence, they merely exchange a cold nod.
